Artist's Statement
This ring came out of my appreciation of traditional hand fabricated jewelry. Before Computer-Aided-Design and 3D printing, the jewelers design toolbox consisted of wire, sheetmetal, rod, grain, etc. Starting with these raw building blocks and working within traditional processes reinforces my appreciation of old jewelry houses like Harry Winston, Cartier and Tiffany’s, back when they were still family owned. Working with cabochon Yogos presents its own challenges. The limited supply of Yogos and the organic nature of cabochon cuts means embracing the impossibility of perfect symmetry and fabricating each setting to the stone in front of you, just as jeweler would have done a century ago before diamond cuts were standardized.
