Dawn is an astonishing moment that cleaves night from day. I mean cleave in both its meanings at once: to sever, and to cling to. In the cosmos, the sun and moon never really leave each other. Our stories and legends often personify them as opposing forces. The sun is bright, strong, and often depicted as masculine; the moon its opposite, dark and mysterious, and often imagined as feminine. But there are bright, tender moments in the dark, and bloody battles fought on the sunniest of days.
There is no true beginning or end. Dawn only makes the differences visible so that we can appreciate and understand them. To be whole, masculinity needs the warmth and softness we so often reserve for femininity. And femininity is soft, but it is also resilience, also strength; the softness and the strength are one and the same.
With Dawn Bridge, I wanted to celebrate the resistance and the magnetism between "night and day" and all of their metaphors. They are facets of a single whole. Dawn is a true moment of wonder where we are lucky enough to witness and appreciate that wholeness.
